How to measure lip frame window screens

screen-frame-lip-colors.jpgComprehensive Lip Frame Window Screen Measuring Guide

Welcome to our detailed guide on accurately measuring your existing lip frame style window screens. These instructions will walk you through the measurement process using an existing frame or by measuring the window frame casement, ensuring that you provide us with precise measurements when ordering your lip-frame window screens.

General Measuring Tips:

  1. All measurements provided must include the lip.
  2. Record measurements from the corners, avoiding middle sections, as these areas are often inaccurate due to the cambered nature of window screen frames, designed to retain screen tension.

5/16 Lip Measuring Guide:

Measuring an Existing Screen:

  1. Carefully remove the existing screen from your window screen channel, possibly requiring compressing plungers or twisting hardware pins.
  2. Measure left to right (including the lip) for the width measurement.
  3. Measure from top to bottom (including the lip) for the height measurement.

Measuring a Window for a Lip Screen (No Screen Present):

  1. Measure from left to right of the channel where the new screen will be inserted.
  2. Measure the top (left to right) and bottom (left to right). Use the smaller of the two measurements and add 5/8" (5/16 + 5/16 = 5/8").
  3. Adjust the height similarly, and then subtract 1/8" from each final measurement for clearance.

1/2 Lip Measuring Guide:

Measuring an Existing Screen:

  1. Carefully remove the existing screen from your window screen channel, possibly requiring compressing plungers or twisting hardware pins.
  2. Measure left to right (including the lip) for the width measurement.
  3. Measure from top to bottom (including the lip) for the height measurement.

Measuring a Window for a Lip Screen (No Screen Present):

  1. Measure from left to right of the channel where the new screen will be inserted.
  2. Measure the top (left to right) and bottom (left to right). Use the smaller of the two measurements and add 1 full inch.
  3. Adjust the height similarly, and then subtract 1/8" from each final measurement for clearance.
