A detailed how-to measuring guide for measuring existing lip frame style window screens. This guide explains in detail, how to measure using an existing frame or by measuring the window frame casement to ensure that you provide us with the most accurate measurements during the ordering process of your lip-frame window screens.
General Measuring Tips:
- All measurements provided to us must include the lip.
- All recorded measurements should be done from the corners. DO NOT measure the middle sections of a window opening or existing screen as these areas are ussually inaccurate because window screen frame is cambered (slightly bowed) to retain screen tension - which will be pulled straight during the screen mesh/wire installation process.
5/16 Lip Measuring Guide
- If measuring an existing screen
- First, carefully remove the existing screen from your window screen channel. This may require compressing plungers or twisting hardware pins, etc.
- Next, measure left to right (including the lip) This is the "width" measurement you will provide us.
- Lastly, measure from top to bottom (including the lip) This will be the height measurement you provide us.
- If measuring a window for a lip screen (no screen present)
- First, measure from left to right of the channel where the new screen will be inserted. Measure the top (left to right) and then measure the bottom (left to right). Use the smaller of the two measurements you just gathered then add 5/8" (5/16 + 5/16 = 5/8") to this measurement. This is your recorded width measurement that includes the lip dimension.
- Next, use same process to calculate the height. Measure top to bottom on both left and right sides of the window screen frame channel. Use the smaller of the two measurements and then add 5/8" (5/16 + 5/16 = 5/8") to this measurement. This will be your recorded height which includes the lip size.
- Lastly, we need to adjust your recorded measurments to allow for clearance. SUBTRACT 1/8" from each final measurement. This will be the measurement you need to provide us during the ordering process of your custom lip frame window screens.
